Iven was called to the British Columbia Bar in May 1996 after earning his law degree from Dalhousie Law School and a B.A. in Political Science and Criminology from Simon Fraser University. Over the years, Iven has become a familiar voice and face in the Vancouver community, appearing on VTV, CTV, and CBC, and regularly contributing to Chinese-language media such as CHMB 1320 and Fairchild Radio. He is also a sought-after commentator on legal matters for Sing Tao Newspaper and a regular guest on the Cantonese radio show “Legal Hotline.”
In addition to his legal practice, Iven is deeply involved in the local community. He serves as the Legal Advisor for the Chinese Real Estate Professionals Association (CREPA) and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Panel for real estate, strata, immigration, business, and family law. Iven frequently presents on real estate topics for realtors and purchasers at prominent firms such as Homeland Realty and Concord Pacific.

He is a proud supporter of the Asian arts community in Vancouver, sponsoring the Vancouver Asian Film Festival, Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre, and the Asian Canadian Writer’s Workshop through Ricepaper Magazine. He has mentored young lawyers through the National Association of Asian American Professionals and served as a long-term director of the Trident Enrichment Society, where he focused on encouraging volunteerism and fundraising for charitable causes.
As a former president of the Vancouver Cambie Lions Club, Iven and his fellow Lions dedicated themselves to fundraising for organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society and the Cathay Villa Seniors Home. His commitment to community service extends to working with health groups to improve multicultural access to the B.C. mental health system and collaborating with the Ministry of Attorney General on community-based programs like the Family Maintenance Enforcement Program.
